I posted in October about Bankruptcy, Taxes, Payment Plans And A Special Deal. In that blog, I linked to my Favorite Fall Payment Plan, which is to pay $200 in the Fall to stop the phone calls and pay the rest when the tax refund arrives. I also announced a special deal, which is that anyone who hires me for a new bankruptcy filing would also get a free individual tax return. The details are described more deeply in the blog. However, for people without businesses or non-owner occupied investment property “free” really does mean free. That offer has expired, but I am extending it throughout the tax season now.
I am also adding another “Special Deal”, but it requires that you specifically mention this blog (and that you “Like” my office on Facebook – a condition I have never put in place before, and will waive if you really do not Facebook.). If you actually pay me off with the tax refund, or if the tax refund is not enough to pay me off and you use at least half of the tax refund to pay me, then I will give a $200 discount for new bankruptcy clients between now and May 1, 2015. This discount seems appropriate at this time of year, because you should be receiving your tax refund within two weeks of hiring me, so I will not be putting much time and effort into holding your creditors at bay. I am extending the deal to people with small refunds, because at least they are trying to get me paid off quickly. Finally, I will extend this offer to people who wind up getting no refund at all. I cannot come up with a good business justification for this. Banks like to kick people when they are down. I think that it is important that bankruptcy lawyers not kick people who are down also. Someone who already has a lot of debt, and now owes taxes is definitely “down”. I need to be helping them, not kicking them.
