Hidden vehicle damage insurance adjusters may overlook

Insurance companies sometimes argue that limited visible vehicle damage means an occupant could not have been seriously injured. But modern vehicles can hide damage behind bumper covers, panels, and structural components.

After becoming frustrated with insurers overlooking vehicle damage, Attorney Louis S. Haskell attended Auto Damage Appraisal School. That training helps our office review appraisals, repair supplements, photographs, hidden damage, and damage patterns to determine whether the insurer’s assumptions are supported by the evidence.

One example is the case discussed in “No” Property Damage, Real Injury: How We Won a $60,000 Settlement, where the insurer’s initial view of the property damage did not tell the full story.

A car accident claim may be undervalued because of disputes over liability, vehicle damage, medical causation, treatment, wage loss, or the long-term effects of an injury.

We address these issues by carefully documenting the claim, presenting medical and financial evidence in a way that can be evaluated by both adjusters and computerized claims systems, and investigating how the collision occurred. When necessary, we may seek supervisory review, use qualified experts, pursue litigation, or take other appropriate legal action.

Our goal is not unnecessary conflict. It is to identify why a claim is being undervalued and use the evidence and legal tools available to pursue a fair result.
